Rick Miller files for Texas House District 26

width=72Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Rick Miller former Chairman of the Republican Party of Fort Bend County experienced business executive and retired Naval Captain filed his paperwork with the Fort Bend County GOP on Friday to make his candidacy for District 26 official. Following a successful four year stint as county chairman which saw record levels of participation among voters and conservative activists Millers campaign looks to build on that momentum as they move forward into an energetic Republican Primary campaign. I view this campaign as an extension of my life-long values of servant leadership" Miller said. On the subject of commitment Miller added the voters deserve a full-time representative and Im excited about the opportunity to spend the next several months in a spirited conversation about the long-term needs of our communities." Miller has been actively involved in the Republican Party of Fort Bend County since moving to the area in 1999 as State Convention Delegate member of Senatorial District Resolutions Committee the Mighty Texas Strike Force the State Platform Committee and Chairman of Nominations Committee at the 2010 State Convention. As county chair my first priority was always to get more citizens actively involved in the political process. As a candidate for state representative Ive been humbled by how many of them have turned around and offered to help with my campaign. Im truly blessed to have so many experienced and well-organized activists helping me here" Miller added. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland Rick was a member of the 1968 Olympic Exhibition Baseball team in Mexico City prior to reporting for flight training. Millers Navy career included commanding a carrier attack squadron an Air Wing and a Naval Air Station. He subsequently earned a Masters in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  CAPT Miller served as a Senior Fellow on the select Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group and Special Assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. Highlighting his distinguished career and many awards he has been honored with the Defense Superior Service Medal Legion of Merit (3 awards) and Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards). As a member of the SW 59 Sunrise Rotary Board of Directors Miller is active in recognizing first responders and Veterans including the upcoming Honoring Americas Heroes on November 10 and 11 2011. He previously chaired local Veterans Tributes when on the Sugar Land Rotary Board of Directors. Rick was appointed to and served on the Sugar Land Regional Airport Policy Board and on the Fort Bend Grand Jury. He also was the Chairman of the Finance Committee at Sugar Creek Baptist Church for two years in addition to his continuing dedication to mentoring candidates for the U.S. Naval Academy. Rick and his wife Babs are the parents of three children.
