Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN TEXAS Congressman Roger Williams (R Austin) who represents Fort Hood the largest active duty armored post in the United States visited the Doris Miller Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Waco Thursday afternoon to meet with veterans and staff and tour the facilities.
I am thankful to those at the Waco VA medical center for helping to make this visit possible" said Williams. While I am confident in the doctors nurses and staff in Waco we must continue to hold the Department of Veterans Affairs accountable for issues it has failed to correct throughout the country including at VA facilities that serve my constituents. The way our veterans have been treated is unacceptable. I believe the only way to ensure the most excellent care for those who have sacrificed for us is to increase partnerships with the private sector to improve service functions and dependability."
While at the facility Williams met with the acting director of the Central Texas VA Health Care System Russell Lloyd and visited with patients in the blind rehab unit.
Last month Williams submitted an appropriations request to the Military Construction Veteran Affairs and Related Agencies Subcommittee on Appropriations that would bar the VA Secretary from using federal funds to pay a performance award to top executives" at the Department of Veterans Affairs until the VA patient backlog has been reduced.
