Romney: Claims Against Cain Disturbing

Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney said Tuesday that the accusations by the first woman to go public with allegations of sexual misconduct by rival Herman Cain are particularly disturbing." Asked about the Sharon Bialeks statements in a televised news conference on Monday Romney said This womans charges are particularly disturbing."   The former Massachusetts governor briefly addressed the unfolding scandal in an interview with ABC News and Yahoo which are conducting joint interviews of all the Republican presidential candidates on Tuesday. I am not going to say more than that" Romney said. I am not going to suppose truth or lack of truth. I just think that it is important to recognize that a number of woman have come forward with concern and this womans charges are particularly disturbing and they are serious." He declined to delve further into the mounting political troubles of his main rival in several recent polls. Cain was either tied or slightly ahead of Romney in polls over the last week although those surveys do not reflect the sentiment of Republican voters in the aftermath of Bialek going public with her story. Two unidentified women got financial settlements from the National Restaurant Association after complaining of inappropriate behavior by Cain when he headed the trade group from 1996 to 1999. A third unidentified woman also said she was sexually harassed but did not file a claim. Bialek is the first to put a name and a face on the accusations considerably raising the stakes for Cain.
