Community Spotlight - Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program
My office is now accepting applications for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) which offers a conditional scholarship to a deserving student dedicated to education and military service. Since its inception the TASSP has afforded exemplary young Texans with the opportunity to achieve their goal of becoming servant leaders of our country. I consider it an honor and privilege to play a small role in the success of these students.
Created in 2009 by the 81
st Legislature the TASSP was designed to financially assist post-secondary students by encouraging them to become members of the Texas Army National Guard Texas Air National Guard Texas State Guard United States Coast Guard United States Merchant Marine or to become a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States. Each year the Texas Governor and Lieutenant Governor may appoint up to two students and each Texas State Senator and State Representative may appoint one student to receive a conditional TASSP award.
The TASSP provides recipients with a conditional scholarship for up to four years to any Texas University with an active ROTC program depending on available funding. To be eligible the student must fulfill two of the following four requirements:
- On track to graduate or has graduated high school with the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) or the International Baccalaureate Program (IB);

- Is currently ranked in the top third of their respective high school graduating class or graduated in the top third of their graduating class;
