Additional Fueling Stations Creating Corridor for Alternate Transportation Fuel

he Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) issued a comprehensive map of existing and planned natural gas fueling stations in Texas. The map shows that drivers of natural gas vehicles today have 104 places to refuel in Texas50 percent more than the 69 stations a year ago.
The states 60 public fueling stations and 44 private stations serve more than 7100 natural gas vehicles. Sixty-seven additional stations are planned to open in 2015 and this year for the first time Texas has more vehicles running on natural gas than on any other alternative fuel.
These numbers show that Texas is solving the old chicken-and-egg problem" Railroad Commissioner David Porter said. Fleets are buying more natural gas vehicles because we have more stations. And the more vehicles they buy the more natural gas stations get built."
In October 2013 Commissioner Porter launched his Natural Gas Vehicle
initiative in response to the Texas Legislature tasking the RRC to educate the public on the benefits of natural gas as an alternative fuel.
As a continuation of his initiative efforts Commissioner Porter is helping to coordinate the first-ever
Texas Natural Gas Summit in Austin on October 23 2014. The summit will connect more than 60 companies with job seekers across Texas. The Summit also features the latest in natural gas vehicle technology including personal vehicles and legislative and E&P workshops for fleet managers and oilfield operators. The Summit is free and open to the public.
The Summit is a culmination of our initial efforts to expand natural gas markets" Porter said. The early results are in and they are promising. We have seen unprecedented growth in Texas natural gas industry; more natural gas vehicles on the road more fuel sold more fueling stations installed and more good jobs created. I am excited about these achievements and look forward to promoting the benefits of Texas natural gas in the second year of my initiative."
