San Antonio Tea Party: On IRS Targeting Tea Party Patriot

Using government to intimidate & control its citizenry? san-antonio-tea-party3cBy Allen Tharp Texas Insider Report: SAN ANTONIO Texas  Just before a very incriminating Inspector General Report was to be released that would confirm that the IRS had targeted political opponents of Obama the IRS offers a mea culpa for doing just that very thing. Was anyone really surprised that the IRS had engaged in such a blatant and unconscionable abuse of power?   Well at least those of us in the Tea party were not.  We have lived and breathed it all:  From the two year delays for nonprofit applications to be processed to having to face demands to release all donor information and answer hundreds of questions. Today we are watching the latest Obama Administration scandal unfold before our eyes. Now it comes to light that this increased level of scrutiny of conservative groups went beyond those that had tea party" patriot or 912 in their names as the agency admitted Friday.  The enemies list has now expanded to also include TexansforIsraelthose that raised concerns over government spending debt or taxes and even ones that lobbied to make America a better place to live according to new details of a government probe. Even Jewish religious nonprofits and organizations inspired by Glenn Becks 9/12 Project were targeted and asked about their theological beliefs and opinions on Israel. The past IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman had previously apparently lied to a Congressional Committee denying the agency wasnt targeting conservative groups.  But it has now been learned that a high-ranking IRS official knew at least as early as mid-2011 that conservative groups were being inappropriately targeted. The National Review says
There are at least three separate categories of wrongdoing here. The first is the targeting of groups that were believed to be critical of the Obama administration or the federal government in general. The second is the demanding of information that was irrelevant to the tax-status questions at hand which would have been wrong even if the practice had been applied evenhandedly across the political spectrum. The third is the misleading of Congress and the public about these practices."
This evident government abuse of citizens who oppose the administrations policies raises grave concerns about how pervasive these practices may be.  It would seem reasonable to also assume that you could also be targeted for opposing Obamacare quantitative easing government overspending high taxes or any number of other positions with which the government may take exception. It is disappointing but predictable that Obama has thus far been silent on this important infraction by his administration.  He was quick to jump to conclusions and opine incorrectly on the shooting of Trevon Martin.  He went off half cocked and accuse the police of acting stupidly in the Professor Gates case although he had his facts totally wrong. But he showed no such passion for protecting the rights of honest hard working Americans who suffered at the hands of Allenan agency under his administrations control. Many of us are convinced that the explanation is that he sees nothing wrong with using the government to intimidate and control its citizenry. Allen Tharp is president of the San Antonio Tea Party.
