SBOEs Mercer: My Opponent Filed in Wrong Party Primary

Says Tuggey made over $41000 in contributions to 22 Democrats ken-mercer(San Antonio Texas)  State Board of Education Member Ken Mercer running for re-election to the Texas State Board of Education in District 5 says his primary opponent Tim Tuggey of San Antonio may have filed in the wrong party primary based upon his recent contribution records.   It appears that my opponent who filed as a Republican is running in the wrong Primary.  Public records show that he has contributed heavily to liberal Democrat candidates who oppose EVERYTHING conservative. Mr. Mercers opponent in the March Republican Primary is lawyer-lobbyist Tim Tuggey a self described conservative of the 21st century. On Oct 15 2009 Tuggey admitted to the San Antonio Express-News that he has contributed to some area Democrats. Federal & State Election or Ethics Reports* document that during the last few years Mr. Tuggey gave at least 31 personal contributions to 22 Democrats for over $41000! Just six months ago on May 22 2009 Tuggey contributed $250.00 to the Travis County Republican Party.  However in the next four weeks he contributed:
  • Two $500.00 checks ($1000 total) to liberal Travis County Democrat State Senator Kirk Watson
  • $2400 (the maximum allowable by law) to Democrat Congressman Chet Edwards of Waco and
  • $1500 to the national Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).
Mercer remarked His June 30 2009 personal contribution to the DSCC is particularly outrageous!  Texas two U.S. Senators are both Republicans yet Tuggey gave $1500 to help a liberal Democrat to obtain Senator Kay Bailey Hutchisons open U.S. Senate seat. When asked about his support of Democrat candidates Mr. Tuggey defended himself by stating to the San Antonio Express-News that he helped 2008 GOP presidential nominee John McCain. During McCains 2006-2008 campaign Tuggey wrote 18 personal checks for over $26000 to elected Democrat officials and PACs.  This includes:
  • One $1000 to Rep. Charles Rangel (D - New York)
  • 3 checks to Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D - Bexar) totaling $6700
  • 3 checks to Rep. Charles Gonzales (D - Bexar) for $5300
  • 2 checks to Rep. Henry Cuellar (D - Guadalupe) for $3300 and
  • 2 checks totaling $3500 to the New Democrat Coalition and Blue Dog PACs.
Said Mercer I would like for Mr. Tuggey to explain how his personal contributions to 13 liberal Democrats were meant to help elect even one obama-west-pointconservative Republican.  After Sen. John McCain was defeated by President Barak Obama in November of 2008 Mercer said Tuggey wrote seven more personal checks totaling $7400 to Democrats including to Rep. Patrick Rose (Hays Blanco and Caldwell) Sen. Leticia Van de Putte (Bexar) and Sen. Carlos Uresti (Bexar). Concluded Mercer My friends we can see where the party of Lincoln and Reagan iss under attack by the elite establishment who oppose patriotism and everything conservative.  March 2 2010 is the right time to send a strong message to turn back to the right not the far left!  * Sources for all contributions: www.Ethics.State.Tx.us   www.FEC.gov
