Secretary Wilson Names Coby Shorter Deputy Secretary of State

AUSTIN – Secretary of State Phil Wilson today announced the appointment of Coby Shorter III of Austin as deputy secretary of state.  In that capacity Shorter will help oversee the daily operations of the secretary of state’s office including elections business and public filings and border and Mexican affairs.

“Coby is a dedicated and accomplished public servant and I am proud to have him join the secretary of state’s office” stated Wilson.  “I have known Coby for a number of years and have a high regard for his character and leadership capabilities. His experience and knowledge of government will be a tremendous asset to this agency.”
Shorter is a native of Eagle Lake Texas and a graduate of Texas A&M University.  He currently serves as the deputy director of Governmental Appointments in the office of Governor Rick Perry.  He has also served as director for agriculture and conservation for former Governor George W. Bush director for agribusiness development for the Texas Department of Agriculture and as an aide to former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm. 

Shorter is also a bi-vocational pastor serving the Rosewood Baptist Church of Austin for over fourteen years.  He and his wife Patricia have one son.
