Encourages Texans to vote earlyAUSTIN – Early voting for the March 4 primaries began this week and Texas Secretary of State Phil Wilson wants to make sure that Texas voters understand their rights as they head to the polls with the launch of the revised voter education program VOTEXAS – You Count. Texas Makes Sure. Secretary Wilson is leading the year-long initiative to educate Texans on their rights as voters and ensure that every voter knows where when and how to cast an informed and independent ballot.
“Our revised website VOTEXAS.org has information to support first-time voters voters with special needs and student voters as well as general information about registering voting early and what to expect at the polls” stated Wilson. “We’re getting back to the basics of voting and reminding Texans that we are here to protect their rights before during and after an election.”
VOTEXAS is a federally-funded voter education program created as a result of nationwide sweeping election reform brought about through the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). Secretary Wilson has visited several counties leading up to the start of early voting and will continue to meet with voters as the 2008 election cycle continues.
“As we count down the days until March 4 I’d encourage all Texans to take time to visit our website or call our Voters’ Hotline to get their questions answered as they prepare to vote” Wilson added. “My office will continue to work with the counties across Texas to ensure a smooth and successful start to the 2008 election season and to let each voter know that you count. Texas makes sure.”
