Sen. Cornyn Demands Release of Ft. Hood Shooting FBI Report

FBI Report -  Chuck Yarling width=141The key findings and recommendations of this report must be made public so we can glean any and all lessons from this incident. The American people and specifically the Fort Hood community in Texas have the right to know. - Senator John Cornyn As negotiations on jury selection for the trial of Ft. Hood shooter Major Nidal Malik Hasan continue at Fort Hood Texas U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) jumped into the headlines on Friday July 13 by calling for the public release of an independent report investigating the actions of the FBI prior to and after Hasans shootings on Nov. 5 2009.  News sources said the 150-page report written by former FBI Director William Webster was to be delivered to current FBI Director Robert Mueller on Friday July 13 2012 and is expected to include 18 recommendations for the FBI. Major Hasan is accused of killing 13 and wounding 32 men and women at a medical center at Fort Hood where troops were being processed for deployment to Afghanistan. Results from a recent poll indicate that most Austin veterans believe political correctness drove Army officials to ignore Hasans previous correspondence with the radical American Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki an al Qaeda operative as well as his increasingly militant Muslim beliefs. Senator Cornyn evidently concurs with this belief when he said in a statement released by his office Our government failed the brave Americans who were killed and wounded at Fort Hood that day. The devastation inflicted on them was preventable and we must make it a high priority to ascertain exactly where the system broke down and ensure it does not happen again. Meanwhile Hasans military attorneys are questioning the jury selection process wherein 12 soldiers will be selected from a total of 150 potential jurors stationed nationwide. And Hasan watches the proceedings outside the courthouse since being barred from the courtroom because of the beard he grew for religious reasons. Hasans trial is scheduled to begin on August 20 2012.
