Sen. Cornyn, HHSC Inspector General Discuss Texas Medicaid Fraud

Will Include Briefing On Cutting-Edge New Technology & New Law Enforcement Authority to Assist HHSC in Prosecuting Fraud

Cornyn4Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas—With Medicaid fraud on the rise nationally and Texas topping the list for highest number of Medicaid fraud investigations nationwide,  U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, will receive a briefing on the latest efforts to target Medicaid fraud in Texas from the Texas Health & Human Services Commission’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Monday, September 2.

Revamped leadership and cutting-edge technology has recently enabled the OIG to uncover greater amounts of fraud, waste and abuse within Texas’ Medicaid system than ever before. Sen. Cornyn will meet with the Inspector General to receive a briefing on new technology being employed and new law enforcement authority provided in this year’s legislative session to the OIG to help prosecute fraud.

Following the briefing, Sen. Cornyn will swear in investigators who, upon taking the Oath of Office, will become the newest members of the nation’s largest OIG team. After a brief swearing-in ceremony, Sen. Cornyn and Inspector General Douglas Wilson will host a media availability to highlight progress being made in cracking down on Medicaid fraud
