HOUSTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas today issued the following statement regarding a proposed bailout pending in Congress for the nation’s top three automakers General Motors Ford and Chrysler:
“The nation’s top automakers this week presented their proposals to the Democratic Congressional leadership on how they plan to turn around their businesses and get out of debt. I have yet to see the details of their proposals so I cannot comment on the merits.
“I intend to review their proposals closely keeping in mind the critical need to protect and strengthen Texas jobs while at the same time ensuring accountability of taxpayer dollars. I also want to ensure that under any proposal domestic auto dealerships in Texas are protected and are treated fairly by those in Detroit.”
Sen. Cornyn serves on the Armed Services Judiciary and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration Border Security and Refugees subcommittee and the Armed Services Committee’s Airland subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General Texas Supreme Court Justice and Bexar County District Judge.
