Sen. Cornyn Supports Bill To Bar Taxpayer Funded Civilian Trials of 9/11 Co-Conspirators

john-cornyn33WASHINGTONU.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas today released the following statement regarding legislation he has cosponsored to bar taxpayer dollars from funding the trial of 9/11 terrorists in civilian court: 9/11 was an act of war and the terrorists who planned and perpetrated it should be treated as enemy combatants and tried in military commissions.  Taxpayer dollars should not be used to bring these terrorists to America and to give them the rights of an American criminal defendant.  This Administrations determination to treat terrorists as common criminals is part of a pre-9/11 mindset that makes America less safe.  Civilian trials for terrorists would put Americans at risk and American taxpayers should not be forced to pay for them." The legislation introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham R-SC is also cosponsored by Sens. John Barrasso R-WY; Bob Bennett R-Utah; Saxby Chambliss R-GA; Tom Coburn R-OK; Susan Collins R-Maine; Bob Corker R-Tenn.; Chuck Grassley R-IA; Orrin Hatch R-Utah; Mike Johanns R-NE; Jon Kyl R-AZ; Joe Lieberman I-CT; Blanche Lincoln D-Ark.; John McCain R-AZ; Mitch McConnell R-KY; Jeff Sessions R-Ala.; David Vitter R-LA; and Jim Webb D-VA.
