WASHINGTONU.S. Sen. John Cornyn R-Texas a member of the Senate Finance Committee today issued the following statement regarding the White Houses newly released report on the economic impact of health care reform:
Todays report is yet another attempt by the White House to create a faade of fiscal responsibility and transparency. What we as taxpayers need to question is not what is in this report but what isnt. While the report correctly diagnoses the cost problem in our health care system it fails to explore the economic impact that President Obamas full-scale Washington takeover of our nations health care system will have on taxpayers. This from the President who promised transparency would be a touchstone of his presidency.
This country is already saddled with debt and entitlement obligations but the Administration wants to spend another $1.5 trillion on new health care entitlements. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that impact will be new taxes or more debt. The fact is we dont need toand we cant afford tospend more money on government program expansions. What we need are real solutionsnot red herring reportsto get higher value from the dollars we are already spending."
