Legislation Toughening Sentences on Crimes against Most Vulnerable Passes House 148-0

Representative Four Price passed the Texas House of Representatives by a resounding vote of 148 in favor and 0 against. The bill makes persons convicted of intentional serious bodily injury crimes against children the disabled or the elderly subject to longer prison sentences by providing judges the discretion to hand down consecutive rather than concurrent sentences.
The bill has the support of district attorneys Texas CASA and the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature a senior citizen advocacy organization.
Senator Joan Huffman will sponsor Representative Prices bill in the Senate. Senator Huffman stated I am pleased to sponsor this pro-public safety bill in the Senate because it is designed to protect the most vulnerable of our society - children the disabled and the elderly.
Commenting on the House passage of this legislation Price stated This legislation will allow for harsher punishment for those who continually abuse and violate the most helpless among us such as children. I am delighted that Senator Huffman will sponsor this bill. Her stellar leadership in advancing this bill in the Senate is much appreciated.
Senator Huffman serves as the Vice Chair of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and previously had a distinguished career as a chief felony prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorneys Office and later served as a well-respected district judge for a number of years . Her legislative priorities as well as those of Representative Price include promoting strong public safety.
Representative Price represents Carson Moore Potter and Sherman counties. He is the only member from the Panhandle region serving on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Culture Recreation & Tourism Committee.
