Rushed Process Limited Deliberation & Consensus
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) today voted against DREAM Act legislation that Majority Leader Harry Reid rushed through the Senate without time for consideration deliberation and consensus. By a vote of 55-41 the measure failed to receive the 60 votes needed to end debate and proceed in the legislative process.
Sen. Hutchison released the following statement:
I could not support the DREAM Act legislation brought before the Senate today because it expanded the scope of the bill beyond the intended individuals who were brought here as children and grew up and were educated in the United States. Such serious legislation should be brought up in a time frame that allows for consideration deliberation and consensus through full debate and amendments" said Sen. Hutchison.
