Sen. Hutchison Releases Statement on VA Secretary Nominee

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) Ranking Member of the Senate Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee released the following statement on the nomination of Dr. James Peake Lt. Gen U.S. Army Retired for Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA):

 “A graduate of West Point and the Army War College Dr. Peake has spent 40 years working in military medicine.  Dr. Peake’s first-hand experience as a former Surgeon General of the Army and Commander of U.S. Army Medical Command based at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio will be invaluable at the VA.
“I look forward to discussing with Dr. Peake the urgent health care needs of Texas veterans and hope to work with him to continue my efforts to expand funding for Traumatic Brain Injury and other advanced injuries that our soldiers sustain in the Global War on Terror.

“I will work with Chairman Akaka and Ranking Member Burr to quickly review the President’s nominee for VA Secretary.”

Sen. Hutchison is the Ranking Member of the Senate Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of the Senate Veteran’s Affairs Committee.
