in Second Round of CDBG Funds for Ike Rebuilding Follows $1.3 Billion in Funding Released in November 2008

WASHINGTON D.C. Today U.S. Senator
Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) announced that Texas counties impacted by Hurricane Ike will receive an additional $1.74 billion of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding that Sen. Hutchison secured in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Emergency Supplemental.
Every time I visit the Gulf Coast communities affected by Hurricane Ike I am impressed by how hard the area is working to rebuild. This additional $1.74 billion in federal funds come at a critical time allowing reconstruction efforts to continue and our communities to get back to normalcy" said Sen. Hutchison.
Sen. Hutchison was successful in securing a total of $6.1 billion nationally for
CDBG disaster recovery in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Emergency Supplemental. The U.S. Department of

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers this funding. Of the more than $2 billion that was distributed by HUD in the first allocation in November of 2008 Texas counties received over half $1.3 billion.
The Community Development Block Grant program is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs.
