Sen. Jane Nelson Announces Staff Changes

janenelson36Dave No Relation Nelson new COS Houston Chronicle vet Jane Elliott Communications Director   AUSTIN -- Senator Jane Nelson R-Flower Mound today announced key staff changes in her Capitol and District offices as well as the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services the committee she chairs. The new Chief of Staff is Dave (no relation) Nelson who has been with Nelson for 10 years as Communications & District Director.  Janet Elliott a 10 session veteran of the Austin Press Corps takes over as Communications Director on Monday August 10 2009. Chief of Staff Steve Roddy is stepping down on September 1 2009 to pursue other career opportunities after 17 years as a Senate staffer.  A Baylor University alumni Roddy worked for Senators Nelson and Leedom.  In his 13 years with Senator Nelson he served as policy analyst legislative director director of the Health & Human Services Committee and Chief of Staff. Replacing Roddy is Dave Nelson (no relation) who has been with Senator Nelson for 10 years as Communications and District Director.   A Southern Methodist University graduate Nelson worked as a reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Lubbock Avalanche Journal and Denton Record Chronicle. Taking over the role of Communications Director on Monday August 10 2009 is Janet Elliott a veteran of the Capitol Press Corps who has covered 10 legislative sessions.  A graduate of the University of Missouri Elliott covered the Capitol for Texas Lawyer The Wall Street Journal and the Houston Chronicle focusing heavily on health and human services policy. The new District Director is Brooke Hambrick who has worked as caseworker and field representative for Senator Nelson over the last 7 years.  A Southern Methodist University graduate Hambrick has also worked for the Frisco Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer of California. In the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services clerk Kyle Baum is departing this month for law school.  He is replaced by Austin Holder a Louisiana State University graduate who has worked in the Senate Sergeant at Arms Office and in Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindals Boards and Commissions Office. SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12 including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties.  She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
