Texas Insider Report: SAN ANTONIO, Texas – This morning, state Senator Leticia Van de Putte (Dist. 26, Bexar County) helped welcome the Wall That Heals for a four-day stay in San Antonio. The Wall that Heals is an exhibition created by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) to travel to communities across the United States. Featuring a half-scale, 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., it is also accompanied by a mobile museum that tells the story of the Vietnam War era and The Wall. Since its dedication, The Wall That Heals has visited more than 350 cities and towns throughout the nation, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions.
“As Chair of the Veteran Affairs & Military Installations Committee, I know how important the Vietnam Veterans Memorial has been to helping our nation
heal from the difficult Vietnam War Era,” said Van de Putte.
“I also know that some heroes from that conflict are either physically or emotionally unable to make the trip to the actual wall — hopefully, bringing this replica of The Wall to our community can help with that healing.
“The United States never properly said ‘Welcome Home’ to our Vietnam service members. The Wall That Heals helps us do so,” Van de Putte said.
The Wall That Heals is being hosted in San Antonio by Central Catholic High School, 1403 N. Saint Mary’s, beginning with an opening ceremony this morning and continuing through April 13. Senator Van de Putte’s son Henry Van de Putte, Central Catholic’s Director of Development, also helped welcome The Wall.
