The Administrations Energy Policy Has Not Kept Up with Safety Improvements; Time to Put the Gulf Coast Back to Work
Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. On the one year anniversary of the disastrous oil spill off the Gulf Coast U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) released the following statement:
The Gulf Coast oil spill was a terrible tragedy with lost lives and sweeping economic consequences. One year later we have learned the lessons of that accident and put in place advanced environmental safeguards and we are now better able to safely produce domestic energy.
It is unfortunate that the administrations energy policy has not kept up with this progress. With gasoline reaching $4 a gallon in many parts of Texas and uncertainty in the Middle East there is no justification for the governments permitting delays that have prevented thousands of Gulf Coast energy workers from going back to work and opening new supplies that will bring down gas prices" said Sen. Hutchison.
Cornyn Statement on the One-Year Anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) today issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill:
One year ago today the Gulf Coast endured a tragic unprecedented accident and 11 families lost loved ones. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to those families and all those affected by this disaster. The damage is still fresh in our hearts and minds as we work to rebuild our coasts. America depends on the Gulf region for a multitude of resourcesenergy seafood and tourism to name a few.
Folks are ready to get back to work and this Administration needs to let them do that. The longer they choose to delay issuing drilling permits the longer they endanger jobs for thousands of Americas Gulf Coast workers. Its time to take the lessons that we learned from this disaster and move forward in developing our domestic resources to meet Americas energy needs."
