Senator Hutchison: New Patent Office a Big Plus for Texas

width=96Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C.  The acting U.S. Commerce Secretary announced today that the Dallas area will be the location of the first satellite U.S. Patent Trade Office outside of Washington D.C. The decision comes after a competitive selection process. The Dallas location will be one of three regional innovation  hubs" to be opened  nationwide.  Specific site selection and development will move forward in the coming months.  Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison made the following statement: In our conversation Monday I told the acting secretary this is very good news for the Dallas area and for Texas. Our state is home to a wealth of inventers and innovators and it is very important that they have direct access to a regional Patent Trade Office (PTO). It will mean new innovations can move more quickly through the patent approval process and therefore more quickly to market. I pushed for this regional office after hearing from countless stakeholders who stressed the importance of a PTO satellite presence to the local economy. The establishment of this office in Texas helps maintain our strength as one of the most important economic centers in the southwest region of the United States. The regional PTO will help boost research and technology development spur cutting-edge businesses and create jobs."
