Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas (McKinney Texas) - Senator Ken Paxton Republican candidate for Texas Attorney General has landed the endorsement of the Houston Police Officers Union Political Action Committee (HPOU).
HPOU President Ray Hunt said On behalf of the men and women of the Houston Police Officers Union Political Action Committee we are proud to announce our support of Senator Ken Paxton in the Republican Primary Run-Off Election for Texas Attorney General. Senator Paxton has been a great friend and supporter of working street officers and understands the dangers police officers face daily. Therefore it is our honor to support Senator Ken Paxton and encourage voters in Texas to do the same."
In response to the endorsement Senator Paxton said Im honored to have earned the endorsement of HPOU which represents over 5000 Houston police officers. HPOU advocates for the men and women who put their life on the line each day in the streets of Texas largest city. The bravery and sacrifice of Houstons finest will not be taken for granted and as Attorney General I look forward to working with these officers to make cities safer for Texas families.
The endorsement by HPOU continues Senator Paxtons momentum following the March 4 Republican primary when he shocked political observers with his first-place showing. During early voting the Dan Branch campaign released a poll showing Representative Branch with an almost 2-1 lead over Senator Paxton. Despite being outspent more than 2-1 Senator Paxton led the field with 44 coming within just 6 points of winning outright.
Additionally Paxton won Dan Branchs home county of Dallas and his other home" county of Bexar where Rep. Branch grew up and still has family. The McKinney Republican won the largest seven GOP counties including Harris Tarrant Dallas Bexar Collin Montgomery and Denton. Senator Paxton won 19 of the top 20 counties in Texas and won 51 of the top 75 counties representing approximately 85 of the GOP vote.
