Senator Nelson Named to New Committee on Veterans Health

width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Texas State Senator Jane Nelson R-Flower Mound today was appointed to a select committee that will conduct a sweeping review of health services available to Texas veterans. As the daughter of a World War II veteran I look forward to working with this committee to make sure that our military men and women receive the services they need and deserve Senator Nelson said. The announcement of the new Select Committee on Veterans Health came as part of a reshuffling of Senate committee assignments by Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.  Senator Nelson retained her other committee assignments as Chairman of Health & Human Services and a member of committees on Finance Nominations and Government Organization. Last session Senator Nelson authored SB 1325 to establish a peer-to-peer mental health intervention program which allows veterans to share their experiences in a supportive environment.  She also passed SB 279 which supports the rights of military parents who are deployed on active duty by ensuring that no court can construe military service as abandonment.  SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12 including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties..
