Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) today sent a letter to President Obama recommending Gregg J. Costa and David C. Guaderrama to fill the judicial vacancies for the Southern District of Texas in Galveston and Western District of Texas in El Paso. The text of the letter follows:
July 19 2011
The Honorable Barack H. Obama
President
The White House
Washington DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
We believe one of the most important responsibilities of United States Senators is to recommend highly qualified individuals for your consideration as nominees to the federal bench. Federal judges are appointed for life and the decisions they make become the law of the land as well as the embodiment of our Constitution and its principles. Given this responsibility judges must exercise restraint and interpret the law in a manner that is honest capable and fair to all.
Consistent with that tradition we recommend Gregg J. Costa for your consideration as the nominee to fill the federal judgeship vacancy for the Southern District of Texas in Galveston. His skill and work ethic as an Assistant United States Attorney in Houston have earned him high praise from the Texas legal community. We believe Mr. Costa meets the high standards expected of federal judges. The federal bench in Texas is among the best in the nation and he will add to its stature.
We also recommend David C. Guaderrama for your consideration as the nominee to fill the federal judgeship vacancy for the Western District of Texas in El Paso. Judge Guaderrama has dedicated the last twenty-four years of his career to public service. As a United States Magistrate Judge in the Western District as well as his fifteen years of experience as a District Court Judge in the 243rd District in El Paso he has earned the respect of his colleagues and his community. We believe Judge Guaderrama is well-suited to fill the immediate need of the current vacancy in El Paso because of his depth of experience and record of service to his community.
Sincerely
Kay Bailey Hutchison
United States Senator
John Cornyn
United States Senator
