Sens. Hutchison Cornyn Invite Candidates to Apply for U.S. Federal District Judge Positions

Application Deadline:  Friday May 14 2010 width=81WASHINGTON DC - U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and John Cornyn (R-TX) today announced that qualified candidates who are interested in serving as a U.S. Federal District Judge in the state of Texas in the Southern District in Corpus Christi or the Eastern District must submit application packets by Friday May 14 2010. The Texas federal justice system has long been administered by some of the finest federal district judges in the nation" said Sen. Hutchison. We set the highest standards for those we recommend for nomination to the federal judiciary and I look forward to working with the qualified individuals who are interested in applying for these judicial vacancies." Texans deserve the finest legal minds and ablest professionals to serve as U.S. District Judges throughout our states four federal judicial districts.  Public service is a great calling and as a former judge I encourage everyone who is interested in serving in these important positions to apply" said Sen. Cornyn a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sens. Hutchison and Cornyn invite attorneys and judges interested in serving in these critical positions to submit their resumes and completed questionnaires to each Senators office at the following email addresses no later than May 14 2010: FJEC@hutchison.senate.gov and FJEC@cornyn.senate.gov.  All applications will be carefully reviewed and then Senators Hutchison and Cornyn will make recommendations to the President. All submissions must be made electronically. Any supplementary materials received via postal mail will be discarded. The comprehensive questionnaire is available at www.hutchison.senate.gov and www.cornyn.senate.gov. Submitted questionnaires will be reviewed by the bipartisan Federal Judiciary Evaluation Committee and selected candidates will be interviewed. Based upon those interviews and personal interviews with Senators Hutchison and Cornyn the most qualified candidate will be recommended to the President for formal nomination. Under the U.S. Constitution the executive and legislative branches of government share responsibility regarding the appointment of federal judges and U.S. attorneys. The President nominates individuals and the Senate provides its advice and consent on the appointments.
