Send Letter to the President Supporting State’s Request

width=66width=65WASHINGTON – Today U.S. Senators Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and John Cornyn (R-TX) sent a letter to the President asking that he expedite a request made by the State of Texas for adjusting the federal-cost share for 29 Texas counties that were made eligible for Public Assistance following Hurricane Ike.

Dear Mr. President:

We write today in support of the request by the State of Texas to adjust the federal cost-share for all Public Assistance Categories (A through G) to 100 percent for 29 Texas counties for a period of 18 months from the date of declaration.   

We urge you to expedite the consideration of this request which is critical for the residents of Angelina Austin Brazoria Chambers Cherokee Fort Bend Galveston Grimes Hardin Harris Houston Jasper Jefferson Liberty Madison Matagorda Montgomery Nacogdoches Newton Orange Polk Sabine San Augustine San Jacinto Trinity Tyler Walker Waller and Washington Counties as they continue to recover and rebuild from Hurricane Ike.

We appreciate the efforts underway by the Federal Government to review the State’s request in a timely manner and ask that you give it due consideration.  You may be certain that we will continue to work with the Administration to aid the victims of this disaster.
