Sheriffs Endorse Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams

width=65Sheriffs from across the State of Texas have endorsed Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams in his run for the United States Senate.  More than one in five Republican sheriffs from west Texas to east Texas signed on to join the Sheriffs for Michael Williams coalition. This is an especially meaningful group of endorsements for Commissioner Williams because of where he began his career: the Midland County District Attorneys office working with law enforcement officers.  As Chief Prosecutor he developed a law and order reputation for aggressive prosecution of criminal cases. These great leaders in law enforcement are ready for consistent and courageous leadership from Washington" said Williams.  They are on the front lines every day keeping our communities safe and they deserve leadership that fights as hard as they do.  Im honored to have the support of sheriffs and will work closely with all Texas law enforcement to crack down on drug trafficking gang crimes and other violent enterprises that jeopardize our security from the border to the Panhandle" said Williams. In addition to serving as a local prosecutor Williams also worked as a prosecutor in the Department of Justice under President Ronald Reagan.  During his tenure at DOJ Williams prosecuted members of the Ku Klux Klan in North Carolina. In a letter to their colleagues the Sheriffs said: Our great state will likely send a new leader to Washington D.C. to represent Texas in the United States Senate in the coming months.  That leader needs to be Texas Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams. We are putting our full support behind Michael Williams because we know when he walks up Capitol Hill as our next U.S. Senator we can be sure he brings with him a full grasp of the law enforcement needs of our state and counties.  Michael has spent much of is career in law enforcement and began his career as a prosecutor in the Midland County District Attorneys office.  Quite simply: he is one of us. Michael knows what we do: a lack of strong law enforcement allows criminals to overrun a community.  In turn good folks cant do what they need to do to run their business let their kids walk to school or go to social events. Strong healthy communities must have strong law enforcement. Michael knows that America is a nation of immigrants.  We value legal immigration control of our borders and ending illegal immigration.  But he also understands that border control is a matter of national security.  As Senator he will work with us to reduce illegal immigration by securing the border first with both physical and virtual fences as well as more patrols; aggressively enforcing sanctions against employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants; immediately deporting immigrant felons; requiring applicants for a temporary work visa to return home and maintain a tamper-proof identification card; and ending the cover provided by lawless sanctuary cities to illegal immigrants. Michael believes that local government works best.  He believes the federal government shouldnt do anything that should be performed by state and local governments who are closer to the people.  And we can be sure that if we need something from Washington Michael is on our side. Every day we work to enforce the law fight crime secure our communities maintain order protect lives property and the rights of Texans.  Michael understands this because he has done it too.  He has spent the lions share of his career working with law enforcement to make our communities safer.  Thats the kind of person we want representing us in Washington D.C."
