We need to address the immediate needs right now because we have a crisis down there (on the border) ... we have an invasion on Texas soil said Sid Miller Republican Ag Commissioner candidate and the former chair of the Texas Houses Border Security & Public Safety Committee.
Im not a lawyer I dont know what the legal definition of invasion is ... but in this cowboys definition were being invaded. The numbers are so overwhelming that we cant control it.
We should invoke Article 1 Section 10 of the United States Constitution which talks about the federal government having the sole responsibility of securing our border protecting our people ... with one exception said Miller who consistently ranked as one of the most conservative lawmakers in the Texas House.
The last sentence of the Article 1 Section 10 of the Constitution says that if a state is invaded or attacked those rights also revert to the states to take matters into their own hands.

Now Article 1 Section 10 of the Constitution has never been used before but our Founding Fathers put that in there for a reason. I would say we are under invasion on the Texas border by virtue of just the sheer numbers. Its certainly something weve known about here in Texas ... Gov. Perry alerted the current administration the
Barack Obama Administration at least two years ago.
And I have been one of the first to call on Gov. Perry to put troops on the border several months ago or more.
Hes done that and Im glad to see that happening but theres more things still that need to happen to secure that border says Miller
Believe it or not bringing health care to rural Texas is a big part whether via pass through programs or various grant programs for rural hospitals or community health clinics of what comes through the Texas Department of Agriculture said Miller who is also a former chairman of the Texas Houses Ag & Livestock Committee.
For me if Im fortunate enough for people to elect me to be their next Agriculture Commissioner water is going to be a big issue with me. Were at a critical point in our states history.
You know for years & years we could water ourselves with windmills and the state was sparsely populated but those days are long gone. We have over 26 million people in the state now with more coming every day so were going to have to start managing the water we have.
Its critical just how we do that because agriculture is the largest consumer of water in Texas Miller said.
But said the former chair of the Texas Houses Border Security & Public Safety Committee Immigration is becoming bigger and bigger ... Texas has a lot of farm & ranch land on the Texas-Mexico border.
