Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. On Wednesday February 17 Rawson Saunders School hosted an all-school assembly with Representative Lamar Smith to celebrate the historic READ ActResearch Excellence and Advancements for Dyslexiaas it makes its way to the presidents desk to be signed into law.
The READ Act is a bipartisan bill introduced by the Science Space and Technology Committee Chairman Lamar Smith which supports important research to further understanding of our nations most common learning disabilitydyslexiaincluding improved methods for early detection essential teacher training and curricula development with the most current evidence-based educational tools. Dyslexia affects an estimated 8.5 million school children and up to one in five Americans in some form. The READ Act will address dyslexia where it matters most in the classroom and will improve the lives and futures of millions of Americans.

Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX) introduced the READ Act with Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) who are co-chairs of the bipartisan Congressional Dyslexia Caucus. The Caucus is comprised of over 100 members of Congress and is dedicated to increasing public awareness about dyslexia and ensuring that all students have equal educational opportunities. Rep.
