TexasInsider Report: AUSTIN Texas Texas Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman officially filed his application today to appear on the 2012 Republican Primary ballot. Governor Perry appointed him in July to the vacancy created by the retirement of Michael Williams. Smitherman is running for the Unexpired Term.
Since coming to the Railroad Commission I have been working hard engaging Texans on the issues that matter most: creating jobs responsibly recovering our natural resources and streamlining the processes at the Commission to ensure we are lean and responsive to our citizens" said Smitherman.
I have been humbled by the overwhelming support I have received from my fellow Texans. Ordinary citizens the men and women who power our energy economy Republican Party leaders and elected officials have all been absolutely supportive of my run for the full term in this seat."
As an objective measure of support since his filing Commissioner Smitherman has raised more money than any previous Railroad Commissioner has raised in a similar time period. In addition he has received the endorsements of more than two-thirds of the Republicans in the House and Senate as well as 17 members of the State Republican Executive Committee. In addition Conservative Republicans of Texas and the Texas Alliance for Life Committee are among the groups who have already endorsed Commissioner Smitherman.
I am honored to have been appointed and I am honored to have the opportunity to work hard for all Texans who are in favor of lean efficient conservative government. I have been campaigning hard since day one and I will continue to do so through the election and beyond."
Since taking office Commissioner Smitherman has been fighting to keep the federal government from smothering our energy economy increasing transparency at the Commission by digitizing more records and enabling Google searches of the Commission website and protecting our Second Amendment rights by allowing licensed Commission staff to carry their concealed handgun while on duty.
