The Texas House has continued its work on emergency items by passing the Sonogram Bill (HB 15) passing the Voter ID Bill (CSSB 14) out of Committee and by taking public testimony on the Eminent Domain Bill (SB 18)" said House Speaker Joe Straus following the Houses action on Millers Sonogram Bill designated as emergency item earlier this year by Governor Perry.
The Houses action on HB 15 this week clears the way for the House & Senate to work out differences in each bodys Sonogram Bill prior to final vote & passage. Said Miller This a very conservative messure its one we promised the voters back before the Legislative Session that we would move on and its now the 1st Bill passed out of the House and sent over to the Senate. There has been a misconception that this bill would require a woman to receive a sonogram. Thats a misperception. Actually a sonogram is a standard medical practice prior to an abortion said Miller. There will be no increase increase in the number of sonograms done as a result of this bill passing none. For a physician to know how to perform the procedure he has to know how old the unborn child is how its located if theres twins any number of things so thats how they find out. The 1st thing they do is perform a sonogram. We just simply want to make sure that sonogram is available to the woman Miller said. Both the Senate & House bills give women the right to see or refuse considering the regularly performed sonogram prior to making a decision for abortion. I want to commend the members of the House for swiftly moving these emergency items forward & for their hard work on the challenging issues facing the state of Texas this session said Straus.
