Join us as Raul Torres (R-Corpus Christi) talks about his campaign to stand up for the voters of South Texas and Valley politics.
You can feel the excitment ... people saying we can support you we like your ideas and we think you will be good for our area. They know a good idea when they hear one!
The three top issues facing the communities down in our area of South Texas are Jobs #1 Education #2 and Health Care" State Rep. Raul Torres tells Insiders Jim Cardle. The umemployment rate is 12 right now in Hidalgo County for the Valley as a whole its 11.7 and its been there for a long time … back in 03-04 the unemployement rate was a little below 10 and its only gotten worse over the years" Rep. Torres (R-Corpus Christi) now a candidate for Senate District 20 tells Texas Insider. Theyre living from paycheck-to-paycheck and with a 12 unemployment rate alot of those families are just struggling to make ends meet" says Torres. In South Texas roughly half of all students drop out of school at this time. Many graduate lack even the most basic skills and too many of those continuing on to college must take remedial courses becausetheyre simply unprepared for college. Ive heard this same story over and over again all across South Texas. In the 1st of a 2-Part Series with Insiders Jim Cardle Torres said Texas needs bold new leadership to properly fund and transform our public education system. Only after we improve our education system in Texas will we provide Texas families the opportunity for a better more prosperous future" Torres said of his campaigns effort to stand up for the voters of South Texas & the Valley. Consider this … weve seen not only positive but amazing results" said Torres of one of his key legislative accomplishments. Torres sits on the TexasHouses Appropriations and Insurance Committees. This Pilot Project which is what we passed (to get started) proved we were able to see a 50 or greater reduction in cost plus at the same time double the output capacity of that agency … and this particular report did not even look into the additional cost-savings to the employer who does business with the Texas Work Force Commission (TWC). Texas Work Force Commission caseloads being handled have doubled from around 20000 to 45000 and costs have been reduced from $3.73 to $1.71 per case. And the wait-time to employers has been cut by more than 50" noted Torres. To learn more about State Representative Torres & the South Texas Campaign visit www.ElectRaulTorres.com.
