South Texas Sees Increase in Employment Economic Activity Related to Domestic Energy Exploration

By State Rep. Jose Aliseda House Dist. 35 width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas As we close out the legislative session in the next four weeks South Texas small business owners (many of whom work in the Eagle Ford shale) continue to make gains.  Across the region weve seen an increase in employment & economic activity directly related to exploration of our domestic energy resources. One indicator of the amount of activity is the number of oil & gas drilling permits issued by the Railroad Commission.  South Texas is very fortunate to be in the heart of the Eagle Ford shale. Across the seven counties in House District 35 oil & gas drilling permits have increased by an average of 226 in two years.  Here are the two year results for each county:
  • Atascosa     165
  • Bee                87
  • Goliad          100
  • width=192Jim Wells    116
  • Karnes         517
  • Live Oak      487
  • McMullen   315
Here is an interesting article regarding the Eagle Ford shale that I found discusses the increased permits issued for the region. These increased drilling permit numbers mirror other data suggesting that the Texas economy is rebounding from the national recession. Additionally the Comptroller indicates that sales tax revenue in March was up about 10 over March of the previous year. This is revenue that will be helpful to close the states budget shortfall fund education and buy down property taxes. It is always great news to hear that Texans are working and thriving especially in the midst of a national economic slow down.  I will do my best to help small business owners (many of whom work in the Eagle Ford shale) to continue making gains. Id like to thank the George West Chamber for hosting a meet and greet last Friday.  I enjoyed meeting everyone who came out. Please continue to stay in touch regarding your priorities.
