St. Rep. Carter: Provide Targeted Property Tax Relief

width=71Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas  Our military servicemen & women are not alone in their sacrifice for our country. Surviving spouses deserve to maintain this benefit despite their loved ones passing said State Representative Stefani Carter (R-Dallas) as joint author of House Bill 472 extending property tax relief to the surviving spouse of a disabled veteran.   House Bill 472 or HB 472 would extend property tax relief to the surviving spouse of a disabled veteran who prior to their death received 100 percent disability compensation due to a service-connected disability and a rating of 100 percent disabled from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. This bill is a much needed addition to our current Tax Code said Carter. In order for a surviving spouse to qualify for a total residence homestead exemption the spouse must meet specific requirements. width=104HB 472 states that the surviving spouse cannot have remarried since the death of the disabled veteran and the property in question must have been the disabled veterans residence at the time of their death. Finally the exemption applies only as long as the surviving spouse remains on the property.

Their families also share in this burden and this bill is simply another way that we can give back to those who have given so much for us said Carter.

Stefani Carter is serving her 1st term representing House District 102 which includes parts of the cities of Dallas Richardson & Garland.  She is a former prosecutor & native of the Dallas area.
