STATE BUDGET: Gov. Rick Comments on Passage of House Bill 1

width=128Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement on the passage of House Bill 1: Todays action by the House is another step toward achieving fiscal responsibility and ensuring state government lives within its means. House members set priorities for state spending and found savings and thanks to their leadership this budget paves the way to help Texas recover from the impacts of the national economic recession. You cannot tax or spend your way to prosperity and Texans expect their elected leaders to govern under that truth when it comes to taxpayer dollars. I look forward to working with members of the Senate as we continue to move a budget through the legislative process that lays the foundation for a prosperous future while funding our states priorities and preserving the balance of the Rainy Day Fund without raising taxes on families or employers. Rep. Christian Helps Remove $61 Million in Taxpayers Funds from Abortion Industry Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Representative Wayne Christian helped lead the floor debate to remove $61 million in Texas taxpayer funds from the abortion industry and personally carried an amendment that moved $3.3 million from the abortion industry to serve families with Autism.  The state funded Autism program was totally defunded in the budget bill House Bill 1 before Rep. Christians amendment moved much needed funds back into the /program.  Rep. Christians amendment passed by 106 to 34 with all present Republicans voting yes" plus three Democrats Reps. Lozano Martinez and Muoz.  After passing the amendment Rep. Christian stated I will stay vigilant in Austin growing a culture of life until that day when every life born and unborn is loved and defended by our laws. Prolife House members and Texas Right to Life spearheaded the effort to reallocate $61 million of family planning a revenue stream for the abortion industry to other more worthy programs when the State House of Representatives debated the states budget.  All seven of the amendments to redirect this blood money passed overwhelmingly with over 100 votes (the highest vote total the pro-abortion opposition garnered was 40) and the final amendment earned 113 votes to snatch the last $9 million! Federal law prohibits further reductions but this 37 blow will severely hurt the abortion industry. The sum total of the amendments successfully passed by our Pro-Life heroes equals a $61 million blow to the abortion advocates in Texas! HB 1 still has to be debated and passed by the State Senate but Rep. Christian anticipates the Senators will preserve the Houses overwhelmingly supported Pro-Life amendments which were also supported and called for by our Pro-Life governor Rick Perry.
