State Rep. Dan Flynn Named to National Conference of State Legislatures Leadership

width=102Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON D.C. I am honored to represent Texas agenda in the continuing debate over the changing State-Federal relationship said State Representative Dan Flynn about his appointment as Co-Chair of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Budget & Revenues Committee. Flynn already serves as a member of the Deficit Reduction Task Force as a member of the Military & Veterans Affairs Task Force member of the International Relations Task Force and now as the Co-Chair of the NCSL Budget & Revenues Committee.   NCSL President Stephen Morris Kansas Senate President made the appointment. The Budget & Revenues Committee is one of the 12 standing committees of the National Conference of State Legislatures. The standing committees are responsible for developing policy directives that guide NCSLs states agenda on Capitol Hill and within the administration. The directives stress:
  1. Opposition to unfunded federal mandates
  2. Prevention of unnecessary preemption of state laws
  3. Protection of state revenue sources and
  4. Increased state flexibility in state-federal programs
Dan Flynn brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the table said Senator Stephen Morris. I am pleased that he has accepted the appointment and I look forward to his valuable contributions to state public policy over the next year. NCSL has just completed an active year in representing the interests of the states in Washington D.C. including work on introduction of the Main Street Fairness Act an width=363extension of the Real ID Act deadline and obtaining $16 billion in federal assistance to help cover the cost of federal mandates in Medicaid. Representative Flynn is a native Texan who serves House District 2 which includes Hunt Rains and Van Zandt Counties. He is currently serving on the House Committee on Defense & Veterans Affairs as well as Homeland Security & Public Safety. He is chairman of the Texas Legislative Sportsman Caucus.  The National Conference of State Legislatures is the bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the states commonwealths and territories. NCSL provides research technical assistance and opportunities for policymakers to exchange ideas on the most pressing state issues and is an effective and respected advocate for the interests of the states in the American federal system.
