State Rep. Vicki Truitt Appointed to State Pension Review Board

width=65September 29 2008 (Austin TX) – Last Friday Rep. Vicki Truitt (R-Keller) was appointed to Texas’ State Pension Review Board (PRB) by Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick.

“I am honored by this appointment and am thrilled to have an increased opportunity to help improve the financial strength of the retirement funds for our public servants” said Truitt.

The PRB is a nine member board made up of elected officials and members of the public that oversees all of the public pension plans in Texas.  Rep. Truitt chairs the House Committee on Pensions and Investments and in that role has focused on maintaining the health of the public pension plans by ensuring their trust funds were managed solely for the benefit of their members.

“The state and local pension systems oversee the retirement accounts of thousands of public employees and the soundness of these multi-billion dollar funds is crucial” stated Speaker Craddick.  “Representative Truitt has a great deal of experience on this issue and will bring that experience to this key board that oversees all of our state’s pension systems” continued Craddick.

The protection of the retirement funds of our public employees is extremely important and I will dedicate my efforts to watch out for the interests of these good Texans said
Truitt.

Rep. Truitt authored legislation in the past legislative session that required the largest public pension plans to have an actuarial audit every five years. She also sponsored a Senate Bill that reformed the Fort Worth Municipal Pension system as well as legislation that provided for retired teachers to receive a 13th check and requires the state to contribute no less than that of active teachers to the Teacher Retirement System.

Rep. Vicki Truitt is a fifth term legislator from Tarrant County representing Grapevine Colleyville Southlake Keller Westlake and parts of Trophy Club and far north Fort Worth.  She is Chairman of the House Committee on Pensions and Investments a member of the House Committee on Public Health and now sits on the State Pension Review Board.
