
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Houston Branch honored State Representative Ellen Cohen with the Centennial Mary White Ovington Founders Award. The award was presented to Rep. Cohen during the organizations Centennial Freedom Fund Awards Banquet celebrating 100 years of activism and advocacy.
Rep. Cohen was pleased to join Honorary Co-Chairpersons the Honorable Bill and Andrea White and the Honorable Judge Ed and Gwen Emmett as well as Mr. Benjamin Todd Jealous the NAACP National President and CEO at the event. Gathering at the Hilton Americas hotel in Downtown Houston the NAACP honored eight community leaders for their commitment to social justice equality and diversity.

State Representative Ellen Cohen represents District 134 which includes all of Bellaire West University River Oaks Rice University and the Texas Medical Center along with parts of Meyerland and Montrose. Rep. Cohen is serving her second term in the Texas State Legislature.
