“The people of House District 2 have encouraged me to seek another term as their Representative and I am honored to oblige.”
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN, Texas – State Representative Dan Flynn (R-Van) made it official by filing his candidacy papers with the Republican Party of Texas Friday morning. Flynn is seeking his 7th term as State Representative of House District 2, comprised of Hopkins, Hunt, and Van Zandt Counties.
“After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, Susan and I are looking forward to continuing our service,” remarked Representative Flynn this morning. “The people of House District 2 have encouraged me to seek another term as their Representative and I am honored to oblige.”
Representative Flynn was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002. Prior to his election, he served as County Judge of Van Zandt County and had a distinguished career in the banking industry, including service as the Deputy Banking Commissioner for the State of Texas.
During the 83rd legislative session, Flynn filed and successfully passed sound pieces of legislation that focused on supporting military servicemen, women and their spouses, securing Second Amendment rights and privileges, and increasing accountability standards for government agencies and office holders. “I truly believe this past session was one of my most successful in terms of the substantive issues we addressed and resolved. I firmly believe in limiting the scope and role of government, and the bills I championed ensure that the rights and privileges of private citizens remain intact and are not infringed upon.”
Representative Flynn currently serves as Co-Chair of the Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations, Vice-Chair of the Committee on Investments and Financial Institutions, and is a senior member of the Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee. Recognized for his extensive knowledge and experience with border and homeland security issues, Representative Flynn has been recognized by the Department of Defense and continues to serve as a Commander in the Texas Maritime Regiment of the Texas Military Forces.
Named the East Texas Legislator of the Year, Representative Flynn was recognized for his dedicated service to promoting regional cooperation by the East Texas Council of Governments. Representative Flynn continues his efforts to bring camaraderie and cooperation to the national level by serving as an active member of both the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) as well as the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). In October 2012, he was appointed Chairman of the NCSL Military and Veterans Affairs Task Force. He is also the former Chairman, and current member, of the Budget & Revenue Committee, a member of the International Relations Task Force, a member of the Communications, Financial Services & Interstate Commerce (CFI) Committee, and is past Vice Chair of the NCSL Standing Committees. In June 2013, Representative Flynn was appointed to the ALEC Commerce, Insurance, and Economic Development Task Force.
“People from all over the country are moving to Texas as quickly as they can because of our stable economy and fierce protection of individual rights,” Flynn continued. “Encouraging private sector growth through limited taxes and a healthy workforce are key components to a successful economy and prosperous State making Texas the very best place to live, do business and raise your family. With the support of my constituency, I will continue to fight for these issues and uphold the values and principles that make Texas great.”
