Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said Friday that the state collected $1.73 billion in sales tax revenue in October which was a 5.2 percent increase over October 2007.
However the slowing economy is reflected in the amount of sales-tax collections.
“Sales tax collections grew in the first two months of fiscal 2009 (September and October) however at slower rates than generally seen over the past three years” Combs says.
“Collections have continued to increase overall but remittances from the key retail trade sector have begun to decline slightly as consumers grow increasingly cautious and confidence erodes.”
In addition to the $1.73 billion collected for the state Combs distributed $548.3 million in November sales tax rebates to cities counties transit systems and special purpose taxing districts.
San Antonio received a sales-tax revenue allocation of $19.5 million in November up 3.26 percent from $18.9 million in November 2007. Bexar County does not assess a sales tax. But VIA Metropolitan Transit received a sales-tax allocation of $8.75 million up 3.66 percent from $8.4 million in November 2007.
The San Antonio Advanced Transportation District received a sales tax revenue allocation of $4.1 million up from $3.9 million in November 2007.
