Applauds retiring Comptroller Susan Combs will assess 2014 Comptroller candidacy after Special Session

State Senate Finance Committee Chair Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) after Combs indicated she would not
seek re-election last week adding that post-Special Session he
will explore a 2014 candidacy for State Comptroller.
Williams is the only CPA in the Texas State Senate and as chairman of the influential Senate Finance Committee was the lead senator responsible for crafting
the 2014-2015 Budget for the State of Texas.
She is a conservative steward of public funds and a champion for government transparency" said Williams of
Combs accomplishments as Comptroller.
Williams said he would not begin his statewide office exploratory effort until conclusion of the current special session of the Texas legislature.
I plan to stay focused on the Special Sessions priorities and will continue my effort to help solve our states transportation funding challenges" Williams said.
Williams is a life-long Texan who was born in and attended schools in Marshall Texas. After graduating from Texas A&M with a BBA in Accounting he began a career in industry and as a public accounting CPA prior to entering the insurance and financial services field.
He now serves as president of Woodforest Financial Services an affiliate of Woodforest National Bank.
Prior to serving in the Texas Senate
Williams served three terms as a State Representative. The 4-year State Senate seat Williams currently holds is not up for re-election until the 2016 election cycle.
