width=65AUSTIN – Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams today released the following statement in response to remarks made by DNC Chairman Howard Dean:

“It is incredibly offensive that Howard Dean Chairman of the Democratic National Committee would use inflammatory and divisive rhetoric in an attempt to distract from the important issues that matter to voters. Dean should immediately apologize for his comments and both Senators Clinton and Obama – as they campaign in my home state of Texas – should denounce and reject the disgraceful words of their party’s national chairman.”

The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former Governor of Vermont contrasted the two parties’ presidential candidates saying that with a woman and an African-American as the two front-runners the Democratic field “looks like America” while the all-white male Republican field “looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s.”

Michael L. Williams is the Chairman of the Railroad Commission of Texas the state’s oldest energy regulatory commission. He is the first African American in Texas history to hold an executive statewide elected post and is currently the highest ranking Republican African-American elected official in the United States.
