Statement from Congressman Ortiz on Tropical Storm Alex

width=71Texas Insider Report: WASHINGTON I have been following Tropical Storm Alex closely since it developed a few days ago in the Caribbean and this morning I was briefed by the National Weather Service on Tropical Storm Alexs movement into the Gulf of Mexico and its potential landfall. As of 1 p.m. today Alex continues to move in a north north-west direction at 5 miles per hour with no change in strength. Tropical Storm Alex is located about 535 miles south east of Brownsville. A Hurricane watch is in effect for the Coast of Texas from Baffin Bay to the mouth of the Rio Grande River on the Gulf of Mexico near Brownsville. My staff and I will continue to monitor Tropical Storm Alex as it approaches the width=116coast in the next few days and we will pass along all the information we receive from federal and local entities. It is important for the people of the 27th Congressional District of Texas to remain calm to follow the developments of this storm and should it become advisable to take appropriate actions."
