Straus Elevates Conservatives in Naming of Committee Assignments

Houses strongest conservatives to lead key major Committees joe-straus-speakerAUSTIN Texas (Texas Insider Report) When Speaker Straus made House committee assignments earlier this week on February 4th he empowered House leaders who have repeatedly delivered conservative victories for Texas. The core leadership of the House remains ready to continue the pro-growth policies that have made Texas such a success.   But Straus also created new leadership opportunities for some of the Houses strongest conservative members sending an encouraging sign to anyone who believes in limited government and personal responsibility. Straus gave about two-thirds of the committee chairmanships in the House to Republicans mirroring the partys advantage in the chamber. Key committees Appropriations Ways and Means Natural Resources Homeland Security and Public Safety will have Republican chairmen. Lets look a little further at the appointments: Reps. John Otto and Dennis Bonnen will largely guide fiscal policy for the House as the chairs of Appropriations and Ways and Means. Both have proven to be conservative champions during their House careers. Rep. Jodie Laubenberg will chair the Committee on Elections. Rep. Laubenberg has plenty of credibility with the Republican grass roots and is committed to protecting a fair democratic process that reflects the will of Texas voters. Rep. Phil King will chair the Select Committee on State and Federal Power & Responsibility. This important committee will look at issues related to the relationship between the states and Washington D.C. which will provide a very important Texas perspective on the growth of the federal government. Rep. Geanie Morrison will chair the Committee on Environmental Regulation. This committee plays a critical role in keeping the Texas economy strong and Rep. Morrison is a proven conservative who is ready for the challenge. Other proven conservatives became committee chairs for the first time such as:
  • Rep. Angie Chen Button - Economic & Small Business Development
  • Rep. Susan King - Defense and Veterans Affairs and
  • Rep. John Frullo - Insurance
These are just some of the conservatives named to lead committees during the new session. Straus has assembled a team that is proven that is focused and is capable of providing the type of sound leadership that Texas voters expect.
