Governor Senators State Representatives and a mix of pro-life organizations rallied to show their support for the Heartbeat Bill that will soon appear before the legislature.
The proposed bill (SB 182 & HB 36) would require a doctor to perform an ultrasound at least two hours before a woman has an abortion and compel the image to be shown to the pregnant woman. The Heartbeat bill also states that if a heartbeat if present it must be made audible for the woman to hear.
The purpose of the controversial bill is to ensure that Texas women have full access to information about their reproductive healthcare decisions as well as services available to all pregnant mothers and to guarantee that women in Texas are able to give their fully informed consent before having an abortion.
Among those present at the rally was Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst who gave his full support of the Heartbeat Bill.
Public funds should be used to protect life not to harm life" said Dewhurst who said the bill offers opportunities for women and churches to promote adoption.
Governor Perry said he was proud of the bill and how hard Representative Frank Corte and Senator Dan Patrick had been working during this session to see the Heartbeat Bill through.
Over 80000 Texas lives are terminated every year because of abortion" said Perry We raise our voices because its the right thing to do."
Perry also stated that there was a ban on public money for abortion procedures in Texas.
As long as I am governor I will oppose our tax dollars on research that ends human life" stated Perry.
There is no such thing as an unwanted child. The right to life is not granted by any government or court of law."
Attorney General Greg Abbott encouraged pro-life supporters that their efforts to limit abortions in America were being upheld in courts and the legal system.
