Swing Voters View Obama Further to Left Than Democrats in Congress

width=241Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN Texas Independent voters opposition to the agenda favored by President Barack Obama & the Democrat-controlled Congress has calcified.  Independents express overwhelming disappointment with the direction of the country and by a 2-to-1 margin hold an unfavorable opinion of President Obama & his job performance.     A national online survey conducted by YouGov-Polimetrix for Resurgent Republic from August 27 to September 1 2010 suveyed 800 Independent voters and shows overall percentages are based on a re-weighting of the data to represent the national likely voter population. The survey data show the following:
  • Disappointment with President Obama extends beyond a faltering economy to a deeper concern about his specific policies and the way he has governed particularly his perceived failure to change the way Washington works.
  • Independents continue to look more like Republicans than Democrats most width=128notably on government spending.
  • Swing voters also view President Obama as further to the left of Democrats in Congress on issues related to the proper role of the federal government.
  • Support among Independents is highest for candidates who oppose stimulus spending and government bailouts favor tax cuts to grow the economy prioritize reducing the federal deficit and believe drastic change" is needed to redress a federal government that has gotten out of control."
