Hammond: Let Texans decide the gaming issue once and for all
Texas Insider Report: AUSTIN TX The Texas Association of Business (TAB) supports the idea of letting Texans decide the issue of bringing casino gaming to Texas and supports SJR 64 by Dallas Sen. John Carona that would allow that vote to happen.
We know the potential economic benefits for Texas should this issue be approved" said TAB President and CEO Bill Hammond. It is time to turn off the vacuum coming from our bordering states that is sucking money out of Texans pockets for those states own benefit and bring that money home."
If approved SJR 64 could mean a minimum of 75000 jobs and $8.5 billion in economic growth statewide and greatly benefit the tourism and horse racing industry.
I think one thing that is overlooked is the ability to help our proud horse racing industry return to its past glory" said Hammond. We used to have the third largest horse racing industry in the country that brought $5.5 billion in economic activity to the state. I believe linking casinos with our horse tracks will bring that economic strength back to that industry."
While the benefits of the industry are well knows the real issue is allowing Texans to vote on it.
We have for years believed no matter what side of the fence you are on when it comes to casino gaming in Texas that we should all have the right to vote on the issue" said Hammond. That is exactly what SJR 64 will do and that is the main reason why we support it."
