Dont miss Insiders update with State Rep. Tan Parker chairman of the House of Representatives Republican Caucus.
A major accomplishment a major conservative victory for the legislature I think is that were going to fund roads. Historically looking at our budget really weve been funding just maintenance and operations without enough funding for building and creating roads for this explosive growth and projected growth we have as a state said Parker whose leadership as Caucus Chairman was crucial to the Houses 2015 legislative accomplishments. So what we are doing specifically is we passed legislation that will provide billions of dollars in additional support for new roads without raising taxes doing so within our tax revenue stream and specifically dedicating a portion of all the new vehicle sales tax growth to build new roads said Parker. And Im here to tell you today that weve appropriated $840 million dollars for Border Security. At the end of the day there is nothing more important to me than the safety of our states 27 million Texans. Its unprecedented it will get us an additional 250 DPS officers down on the border and it also allows us to get more productivity and effectively beef up our presence down there. This is a serious issue and theres nothing more important than the safety and security of the state ... were talking about cartel activity were talking human trafficking activities. This is another major theme of this legislature; to end this modern form of slavery that is human trafficking and at the same time go after the cartels Parker said. On the Life Front to me personally nothing is more important than protecting life. From conception to natural death we passed comprehensive legislation that weve been working on for many many years with regard to end of life matters meaningful solutions to end of life issues. Then on the front end of the process we put in place the most comprehensive Judicial Bypass bill anywhere in the United States said the House Republican Caucus chair. So from conception to natural death the House of Representatives weighed in the legislature as a whole weighed in and we worked together to make certain that we advance not only fiscally conservative pro-growth and business issues but also preserve our traditional values when we address the pro-life cause and end of life issues Parker said.
