Terrorism on the Illegal Immigration Superhighway

Congressional report reveals not every border crosser is poor Mexican migrant or even poor or even Mexican Texas Insider Report width=136A 2006 Congressional Report on border threats prepared by Texas Congressman Michael McCaul & the House Committee on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Investigations indicated that 1.2 million illegal aliens were apprehended in 2005 alone ... 165000 coming from countries other than Mexico.  Approximately 650 were from special interest countries or nations the Border Patrol defines as designated by the intelligence community as countries that could export individuals that could bring harm to our country in the way of terrorism.   The report is entitled A Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border and the State Department lists the following nations as special-interest countries:
  • width=244Afghanistan
  • Algeria
  • Iraq
  • Lebanon
  • Libya
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Somalia
  • Yemen
Warning of an ever-present threat of terrorist infiltration over the Southwest border the congressional report notes:
  • U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations have revealed that aliens were smuggled from the Middle East to staging areas in Central and South America before being smuggled illegally into the United States.
  • Members of Hezbollah have already entered the United States across the Southwest border.
  • U.S. military and intelligence officials believe that Venezuela is emerging as a potential hub of terrorism in the Western Hemisphere. The Venezuelan government is issuing identity documents that could subsequently be used to obtain a U.S. visa and enter the country.
Border security is clearly an act of national security says Joseph Farah co-founder and CEO of WorldNetDaily.com who believes a plan to enact amnesty is quickening. Under the plan drafted applicants 14 through 79 years old would be required to submit themselves for photographs a full set of fingerprints and a signature. A photo and single print would be required for others. Only one outside contractor is discussed in the memo Northrop Grumman and the plan suggests negotiating a contract now even before the legislation is approved. It also calls for volunteer help at local service centers and field offices. The last time Washington attempted a push for amnesty under the guise of Comprehensive Immigration Reform under President George W. Bush in 2007 the project triggered an width=124outcry from talk radio and the public. It failed as a result. The political makeup of the Congress Farah notes has changed since then. Democratic leaders recognize he said that their control of both houses is in jeopardy in the November elections and are determined to pass the amnesty program though they abhor that word. Sen. Charles Schumer D-N.Y. has enlisted evangelical leaders to promote the plan. Democrats are determined to get at least some Republican support for the measure so the party is not held to account for amnesty like it is for another unpopular piece of legislation following the health-care debate that width=114already threatens many Democrat seats. Even Sen. John McCain R-Ariz. and Sen. Lindsay Graham R-S.C. formerly vociferous proponents of the plan during the Bush administration have distanced themselves from efforts in the Senate to revive it. You can play a vital role Schumer recently told religious leaders including Richard Land of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and Mathew Staver of Liberty Counsel saying Republicans have great respect for them. So please if you could help us get some Republicans just to sit in a room and talk to us.
